Women of STEM

On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, thirty-three 3rd through 5th Grade girls from Tekoa Academy of Accelerated traveled to Space Center Houston to attend the “Women in STEM” event.

The event began with guest speaker Ms. Elizabeth Blome who has worked at Johnson Space Center/NASA for over 20 years. Ms. Blome has held numerous positions during her tenure, including working as a Space Shuttle Flight Controller in mission control and as a Space Station instructor, teaching astronauts and flight controllers.

Then the girls split into groups to participate in 2 hands-on activities.  One group learned about robotics and coding with Ozobots. Ozobots can be programmed by reading a color sequence drawn on paper.  The other group designed a miniature landing system using house-hold items.
